3 Great DIY Household Cleaning Products That Really Work
Whether you’re trying to pinch pennies, or clean in a pinch, here are 3 great DIY household cleaning products that really work!
Cleaning isn’t everyone’s favorite thing to do, but it’s something all renters and homeowners have to take responsibility for. No one wants to come home after a long day to settle into a mess, and it’s not exactly the best environment to welcome guests into, either.
But, it can be hard to clean your home well if you’re out of cleaning products or don’t feel like going to the store on your day off. If these are your biggest excuses for not cleaning, it’s time to get into the kitchen and make a few DIY household cleaning products.
Many cleaning solutions can be made with just a few simple items that you likely have in your pantry. These are simple to use, much safer than standard cleaning products, and cheaper, too!
Here are 3 of the easiest cleaning supplies to make at home.
1. Glass Cleaner
It only takes a few seconds to wipe down your mirror and it probably won’t take you as much time as you think to clean all the windows in your home. But, you need a strong cleaner to do this with!
Good thing all you have to do is boil some water and grab a bit of white vinegar. Combine these two ingredients into a spray bottle and you’re good to go.
The heat of the water activates the vinegar’s cleaning properties and helps make this cleaning solution as streak-resistant as possible. It makes your mirrors and windows shine without having a dull look to them.
2. Tile Cleaner
Save your water and vinegar combination once it cools down. It won’t be as effective for cleaning glass at room temperature, but it can be turned into a tile cleaner.
You may even want to add an essential oil like orange oil or peppermint to make your home smell as fresh and clean as it will look. This cleaner works great for tile flooring and for wood floors, and it’s only one ingredient away from becoming your go-to carpet cleaner.
3. Fabric Cleaner
To clean stains on the carpet, the furniture, or even your clothes, you need baking soda. Baking soda activates other ingredients in your DIY cleaners to help them lift stains off fabrics.
For carpet and furniture, use a mixture of baking soda, white vinegar, and water to get the results you’re looking for. Essential oils are optional.
For clothes, you’ll need to add a bit of hydrogen peroxide and some salt to the mixture. Also, try to apply this mixture on only the stained area, not the entire t-shirt or dress you’re cleaning.
How to Get the Most Out of Your DIY Household Cleaning Products
DIY household cleaning products only work when you use them. You can put in as much effort as you’d like when making them, but that will do you no good if all they do is sit on the shelf.
The secret to keeping a clean house is to make the time to actually clean. It’s one thing to take 10 minutes out of your day to make the products on this list, and another to spend an hour checking off everything on your cleaning to-do list.
Luckily, that’s where we come in.
