We all dream of having a home that’s always clean and tidy. However, for many of us, that ends up being a lofty goal.
If you really want to accomplish that goal of always having a clean and well-run home, then, first, you want to be intentional and specific with that goal before you move forward.
Writing out your goals and the steps you need to take to ensure your goals are realized, is essential. Read on to learn how to do this.
1. Write Down Your Goals: SMART METHOD
Use the SMART method for goal-setting for your housekeeping.
Specific: What are the things you want to achieve?
Measurable: Are you able to track your progress?
Attainable: Is it achievable?
Relevant: Does it correspond with your goals to have a cleaner home?
Timely: Can you set a “due date” when you work on it, either daily or weekly?
2. Identify Short-Term Objectives
Let’s say your goal is to keep your kitchen clean. Here’s an example of an action plan written out.
October: Buy Organizers and Cleaning Supplies
Take a look at what you can afford to buy this month in terms of organizers and cleaning supplies.
Only purchase the items you will use and need, rather than getting items that will go to waste (including things for organizing).
November: Start Cleaning
Now that you have everything off your list – start with small goals of cleaning. It can be as simple as this:
Week 1: keep the counters clean.
Week 2: keep the counters clean and sweep daily.
Then each week, you’ll continue the previous week’s goals and add a new one until your kitchen is staying clean.
3. Be Intentional, But Stay Flexible Too
Being intentional is a good thing, but you need to be flexible as well. When you get so wrapped up in achieving your goals, you can often miss what is happening right in front of you.
Don’t let yourself become so intentional about achieving your goals right this second that you end up inadvertently self-sabotaging your success in the end.
