Now that it’s officially Fall, you know what that means, the annual Fall cleaning checklist.

Besides the benefits of getting rid of dust or finishing chores that have been piling up, you’re able to help keep your family healthier as we enter the cold and flu season.

In today’s post, we’re sharing the steps that you should take as you embark on this cleaning journey ahead.

1. Clean and Store Your Patio Furniture

While you might be able to enjoy your patio year-round, many cannot. If you cannot, this step is for you.

Take some warm soapy water and wipe down each of the outdoor furniture pieces. Once that’s complete, wipe everything down with a dry towel to ensure everything is in tip-top shape next summer.

Then if you have space in your garage or an outdoor shed, take the furniture out of the elements so that they don’t get ruined.

If you don’t have a space to store them over winter, don’t worry. Go to your local store or even online and order some weatherproof covers to help prevent rust or decay.

2. Wash Your Windows

Summer is often a busy time for families, so it might have been a while since you last cleaned your windows.

Take this time to clean both sides of the window, and you’ll feel so much better as you head into this season.

Some Windex and a microfiber cloth will help make your windows shine bright during those long winter days.

But make sure to use the microfiber cloth, or you run the risk of leaving particles on your clean windows.

On a side note, if you notice the outside portion of your window is extra dirty this time around, spray it down with a hose if you can before starting with the Windex.

3. Sweep Your Chimney and Fireplace

Your Chimney and Fireplace should be swept and cleaned yearly to help protect your home from accidental fires, so this is the ideal time to get it done.

We recommend having a professional come and clean the chimney portion, so there’s less of a chance of you getting injured.

The area that you can focus on is the inside of your fireplace. You’ll want to start by removing any debris from the firebox.

Take a fireplace shovel, scoop out any ash and firewood pieces, put them into a trash can, and then take a vacuum to remove any of the remaining dust.

Keep vacuuming until there is nothing left inside your fireplace.

4. Deep Clean The Rooms Inside Your Home

As we mentioned earlier, the summer months are a time to relax, so cleaning is put on the back burner.

Yes, we might do the bare minimum to help get rid of visible grime, but we haven’t taken the time to deep clean the house as a whole. Now is the time.

If you’re unsure about the benefits of deep cleaning your home, check out our blog post for everything you need to know.

Overall, make sure to dust, vacuum, sweep, and disinfect every inch of the different rooms inside your home, including under furniture, rather than just the spaces you can see with your eyes.

It might feel overwhelming at first, but once you finish, you’ll be so glad that you did it.
