Grease and oil stains are some of the hardest to remove. Most of the time, as you probably already know, they never come out.
According to Grab Green, here’s why: “Because grease is a lipid and insoluble in water, it’s more difficult to get out than most other stains. An average laundry cycle won’t do the trick because grease grabs onto the fibers of the fabric.”
We don’t want you to lose your favorite outfit to grease, so we’re going to share a few ways you can remove those pesky stains.
Same Day Stains
Baking soda isn’t just useful when baking or making your teeth white.
It also helps to remove stains, pulling the oil out of the clothing item and into itself.
We recommend using this right away when it happens.
First, dab the spot to remove any oil on the surface, and then add the baking soda and allow it to sit for 24 hours.
Afterward, brush off the item, spray with vinegar and water solution, and scrub.
If the stains remain, repeat the process until removed.
Set-In Stains
If a stain has been sitting there, that doesn’t mean it will be impossible to remove, but it does mean that there’s a little more effort needed.
Here’s what you need to do to tackle older stains:
1. Don’t Get the Clothing Item Wet
When it comes to working on a stain, working with a dry outfit is more controllable.
2. Dab The Stain
Similar to the step above, you want to blot the stain with a clean, yet dry, cloth to help pull out any excess oil.
3. Use Dish Soap
Instead of laundry detergent, you’ll want to use liquid dish soap because it’s designed to break through grease and oil.
Rub the soap thoroughly into the stain and let it soak for five to ten minutes.
4. Rinse And Repeat
Once the soap has been sitting for the allotted time, rinse and wash with hot water and laundry detergent.
Once it’s dried, if the stain is still there, keep repeating this process until the stain is gone.
